"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." ~Aesop
All parents are teachers, but even in my life before my two wonderful children were born, I was a teacher. I taught chemistry and science and technology at a local high school. As I took time to stay home with my children I became interested in teaching my kids about the joy of giving to others through our time and our actions. Over the years we have tried to help out and participate in lots of local community and charitable events (and we still do).
When my daughter Lauren was 9, she wanted to raise money for a local children's hospital. On her own, she decided to “sell” candy canes (it was the beginning of December) after church for three consecutive weeks. Lauren planned it, and executed most of the details on her own. She ended up making over $100 that she gave directly to the hospital. It was at that point that a seed was planted within my heart. I wanted to continue this kind of giving spirit and nurture it.
A few years went by, but in 2017 I decided to create Simple Gifts Project. I am hopeful that others will be able to see my simple vision of helping children one smile at a time. I am optimistic that this project will encourage kids to help out someone in need and feel good about themselves in the process. If you would like to learn more about the project or how you can help out, please feel free to look through our website or contact me directly.
